The Role

The newly created APS 6 Classified Records Review Manager role provides you with the opportunity to be part of a small, highly experienced team that reviews Defence records for release to the public and the Official Histories Project. Strong communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to deliver outcomes through collaborative relationships and sound judgement are essential.

As Classified Records Review Manager you will:

  • Manage and coordinate tasks and engagement with stakeholders to ensure timely and quality advice.
  • Conduct research to determine the ongoing sensitivity of Defence information.
  • Draw sound inferences from information and make a decision.
  • Assist in researching, drafting and preparing briefs, complex correspondence and reports.
  • Work collaboratively in a team.
  • Engage effectively with relevant stakeholders

About our Team

The Classified Records Review (CRR) Team reports to the Director, FOI Operations and reviews Defence records for release to the public under the Archives Act 1983, and supports the Official Histories of Australia’s involvement in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan. The successful candidate can expect to be challenged in their role and supported by an inclusive and considerate team and leadership group.

The role is suited to a highly organised person with very good attention to detail, and the ability to apply relevant legislation and guidelines to the review of paper and electronic records. They assist the Assistant Director to manage and prioritise the team’s work, and update guidelines and procedures. Due to the classified nature of the records being reviewed, all work is conducted at Campbell Park Offices in Canberra. There is no scope for remote working or working from home, but part-time hours may be considered.


Our Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate an ability to apply guidelines to the review of records to comply with legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks. You will be relied upon to research; draft correspondence and reports; and resolve problems using expertise and good judgement.

You will need to operate independently within a team and engage effectively with stakeholders to understand their expectations and concerns to achieve overarching strategic outcomes for Defence. If you have an interest in Australian history and politics, or the military or intelligence environment and would like to enhance your skills, this role will assist whilst expanding your experience.

Essential

Desirable
